This is the second straight week that we are reporting series low numbers for the ABC/Marvel drama, Agents of SHIELD. The show has not been able to engage viewers since coming back form its extremely long winter hiatus, despite being picked up for a fourth season by the network. Last night’s episode earned a 1.0 in the 18-49 demographic and only brought in 2.91M viewers. To give you an idea of how low that is, those numbers are very similar to Arrow’s season averages. Arrow, a show that airs on the CW network which sees much lower viewership in general, and has consistently come in last in the genre for both ratings and viewers until the Legends of Tomorrow and Agent Carter seasons began. Supergirl, Gotham, and The Flash usually earn around a 1.3-1.5, with Supergirl pulling in over 6M viewers, more than double of what Agents of SHIELD saw last night.
I think it’s safe to say that ABC is worried about their decision to renew the show so early, we’ll have to wait and see if Agents of SHIELD can win back viewers as the season reaches its climax. You also have to wonder what this means for the planned spinoff show featuring Bobbi and Hunter.
