Report: Robbie, Hardy, Smith Close to Joining Suicide Squad

Tom HardyIt is being reported by multiple sources, most notably Deadline, that a trio of A list actors are close to signing on for DC’s Suicide Squad, which is set to be released in 2016, sometime after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Many found it odd that DC was planning on releasing a villain film before any solo hero films, in my opinion, it’s a good way to separate themselves from the formula that Marvel has used, no matter how successful it may be, and give fans a completely different dynamic as we all get ready for the first Justice League movie.

It has already been rumored that Harley Quinn will not be part of the group, but it’s hard to picture Wolf of Wall Street alum, Margot Robbie, as any other character. Will Smith, an actor known for playing the hero most of the time, would be a fantastic Black Manta in my opinion, and it would allow the plot of Suicide Squad to potentiallyMargot Robbie set up at least some of the plot of the future Aquaman film, that will star Jason Mamoa. Tom Hardy, who has already engrossed himself in the DC universe as The Dark Knight Rises memorable antagonist, Bane, could definitely thrive as a character like Deadshot, whose back storyis always riddled with substance, emotion, and pain which all drive the character.  That said, I could also see him as a great Captain Boomerang…

Will SmithAll three of those major villains, or anti-heroes, have the substance and presence to play a bigger part in the overall DC Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, we still have yet to be given much information about the universe, so, at this time, all we can do is speculate.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is poised to initiate the DC Cinematic Universe in March of 2016, with Suicide Squad, directed by David Ayer, is set to hit theaters later that year.
